Playing better golf is not just about swinging perfectly, driving long, smooth irons or backspin or better putting. A good player needs all these capabilities and the game play has to be consistent. If you are in the phase of improving the way you play golf, take care that you concentrate on playing consistent game.

You have to first devise a plan that comprises of all the golfing steps that work for you. Arriving at this golfing plan is not easy and it requires a lot of effort. It is not impossible either. You have to work with your golf instructor and identify what works for you.

To develop consistent game on the course, you have to learn to treat the results equally. If you know what works for you, practice the same on the course irrespective of the results. Sometimes, your golf plan may lead to bad shots, but never give up something that works for you on account of a few bad shots.

Lie is important for any golfer. Professionals have a decent lie that helps them play excellent shots. Even in short game shots, have more attention on your lie to develop a consistent game play.

A good pre-shot routine is very essential for every golf aficionado. This involves three steps where you pick your target, visualize the shot and prepare for the best shot.

When you don’t have this routine and hit the ball on the go, you will have many bad shots. You have to be patient when you play competitive games. Always think about the process of the shots and don’t get too over-excited about the outcomes.

A Few Putting Tips

How many times have you been frustratingly close to sinking a putt only to come up short?
Perhaps you have only just missed the hole. You probably had to watch your ball go sailing past. Adding in too much distance for the return putt.

Many games have been lost on the putting green. Most of the time this is because the wrong distance is used, instead of the direction of the ball.

Even on sloping greens most beginners quickly get a feel for the direction the ball will travel.

You may have seen it yourself. A newcomer to the game puts the ball within inches of the hole on a sloping green. Time and time again they fail.

The ball stopping a few inches from the hole when they miss is something you won’t see quite as often.

When determining the distance a ball with travel on the green there are as many factors to consider. A ball will travel on the green, from the slope, to the preparation of the green and whether it is wet and slow or dry and fast.

It can make a huge difference depending on the time of day. Greens get faster as they dry off in the afternoon sun.

To really get your ball to drop into that hole you need to concentrate on the distance of the putt. Reading the distance is very important.

Once again, the way that you play all comes back to practice. There is no better way to practice than on the day of the tournament in the conditions that you will be playing in.

Have a few practice putts before you start playing. Always take some time to “dial in” your distance.

There is one thing that you must always remember. If the golf ball does not reach the hole it will never drop.

This seems too obvious to even need to be mentioned, but many people to remember this. More often than not putts will always come up short.

You should always aim for the back of the cup. That way, provided you have your direction right, you are going to have a chance of making the putt.

A Unique Putting Tip

To improve your technique use this simple technique.

You need to learn to putt on the flat before you can expect to putt well on greens with a slope.

By practicing this you will be able to swing your putter though a straight line. This will enable you to hit the ball squarely on the face of the putter.

There is another good technique you can use when practicing on the green. Mark straight lines with a builders chalk line in several directions from the center of the hole spanning out around the green.  You will want to do this to one that you have at home since this technique wouldn’t be appreciated in public.

To make the process easier you should get someone to hold the chalk line at the center of the cup.

To leave chalk marks along the ground you must move around the green flicking line.  After that place your golf ball on the line and leave some of the line on the ground visible behind the ball. Your swing will be guided by that.

Swing your putter using the line on the ground as a guide.  You should line up the putter itself to connect with the center of the ball.

You will manage to putt in a very short time. From a relatively good distance you will be able to get the ball in the hole most of time.

Consistency and correct posture will help start to putt better.

Move the ball off the line after doing this from a different position on the green. Visualize that there is still a line on the ground by creating it in your mind. Look from the ball to the cup and back again several times.

You should line your putter up as before and look at the line on your putter. To hit center of the ball with this spot on your club.

You should now retrain yourself to see an invisible line from the ball to the cup. This will help you be able to use it on any green you play on.

How to lower your golf handicap

When the golf season is on, every player is interested in lowering their golf handicap. Everyone, including high and low handicappers, is looking to lower their score and this quest does not end for a golfer.

With the aim of playing a better game, you may try to learn a perfect swing that helps you drive the ball perfectly. But swinging is not the only ultimate aim for a golfer.

While determining the right shots to be played, don’t try to outplay your competitors. Just concentrate on your game and you will be rewarded at the end. Biomechanics for Beginning Golfers

Warm up

Proper golf etiquette

You may be playing golf just for fun with your friends, but when you are on the course, you have to follow proper golf etiquette. Maybe you are playing for fun, but you have to respect other players who are really passionate about playing golf.

Some etiquette is based on common sense while following others will gain reputation among the other golfers. Whenever you are on the course, practice following the proper golf etiquette, even during your vacation.

This gentleman’s game can be a real pleasure for everyone if certain unspoken rules are followed while hitting the ball.

Honesty is expected from all golfers. You have no-one to monitor the way you hit the ball and note down the scores because it is you who is going to record your scores. Maintain a correct score sheet though you can report anything you wish.

You can have digital gadgets that automatically calculate your scores. Golf is not a team game and the etiquette followed by every player makes the game more interesting. The entire group will lose interest in the game when at least one player creates a nuisance on the course.

You have to maintain quiet on the golf course when people are taking their shots. Though you are playing with your friends, you have to keep silent so that every player has the opportunity to concentrate on his game.

Cell phones are not to be used when you are in the course to play the game. If you require the dreaded modern life device, switch it off and keep it in your bag for emergencies only.

Most of the courses and clubs have a dress code for golfers even though stringent rules are not usually specified. The common dress code includes wearing loose pants and golf shoes.

Playing golf is a fun entertainment, but it is not to be played with your jeans on. Apart from the dress code and other rules, check with the clubs to understand the local rules.

Of course, never leave trash on the course. You have to take steps to protect the course and it is your moral responsibility to keep the course as it was.

You should not step into somebody’s line of shot and if your shadow falls on another player’s putting line, you have to move. Stay calm and cool on the course and it is really bad practice to yell at your opponents when they play wrong.

You have to take care of tee time and should not create unnecessary delays. It is important to maintain a good relationship with other players.

You should always reach the course early. Sometimes the courses may follow different rules for scoring and if you don’t know them, you have to suffer when you play the game. When you arrive early, you will have time to get acquainted with the course.

Improve Your Swing with Lessons From The Master

Try these tips from the worlds most elite golf player to get the fundamentals right.

1. Address your posture problems: If your spine is bent over too far you could become injured. When carrying the swing through a poor posture also causes you to loose some forward momentum. Move in a little closer to the ball, to give you better connection when swinging your club and to keep your shoulders better aligned.

2. Stance: Tiger keeps his legs spread slightly further than shoulder width apart and keeps a slight bend in his knees. Doing so allows him to have more power when swinging his hips.

3. Pivot your hips: When completing a swing Tiger keeps his knees slightly turned out, this give him better power in his legs and provides for a better weight distribution.

4. Treat your injuries when they occur:
Golf can be wearing to the body. Tiger has undergone several knee surgeries in order to fix a bad knee. If he had continued to play through the pain, when pivoting his hips back he would have to overcompensate for the pain by shifting too much weight to one leg.

Alternatively, he would have to lose power on the backswing in order to avoid putting too much pressure on a weak knee. If you are a serious player, then get your injuries treated now before they do serious harm to your swing and develop into muscle memory.

5. Pay attention to how you hold your hands: Tiger does not center the club between his hips; he lets the club rest against the inner thigh of the forward leg. He also keeps his elbows pointed toward the hips. As he swings this grip allows him to follow through with impact without adjusting his wrist and provides a natural feel.

6. Tilt your upper body:
By changing the position of his upper body, Tiger is able to have more power and control when he hits the ball. A slight tilt tot the right side of the body allows him to keep his shoulders open as he swings.

7. Get your feet into the proper setup:
The time to make compensations for your swing is not during the backswing. By getting your body in proper alignment, you won’t have to swing too hard.

Keep the heel of your left foot lined up with the toe of your right foot. By keeping your feet in this stance as you swing, your right hip will naturally turn in and you will stay in the swing plane.
